Abstract
Brucellosis is a worldwide zoonotic disease. The role of sheep and goats is particularly
important as they are considered reservoir animals. Although it has been eradicated in
some countries, it continues to be an important disease in many farming areas of the
Mediterranean region. The study reports the results of field and microbiological examinations
carried out at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sicilia over the three
year period 2007–2009
