On Approximation Using a Peak Norm Original Research Article

For a given nonatomic finite measure space (X, μ), best approximations of elements of Lp(X, μ) from a linear subspace are characterized, using a peak norm. Uniqueness and strong uniqueness results are given for p > 1, as well as conditions for the local Lipschitz continuity of the best approximation operator.
