Abstract :
Compton telescopes using two germanium strip detectors with depth resolution have been demonstrated at the Naval Research Laboratory. Depth resolution allows interactions to be located to less than 1 mm, down from the detector thickness (~1 cm) with no depth resolution. Depth resolution is shown to improve the imaging resolution of the telescope substantially. Compton images and reconstructed energy spectra are examined using events that interact two or three times with and without full energy losses. These results are compared with simulations of the instrument.
