Abstract :
The solvation of a wedge can be related to that of planar pores by employing an interface displacement or Derjaguin analysis. This approach implies that the line tension and solvation force for a wedge are proportional to an amplitude defined from averaging the planar pore solvation potential over all possible pore widths, times simple monotonic functions of the wedge angle θ. At small values of θ all sensible choices lead to the same angular dependence. The amplitude is a well known quantity in colloidal science, linked directly to the barrier for flocculation by the depletion effect.
