Abstract :
The merging flow model without a bottleneck is presented to mimic the pedestrian channel flow with a meeting point. Two channel flows in front of the meeting point interact one another when the exit density is higher than the maximal-current density. The distinct phase transition occurs by varying the entrance densities. The dynamical phase transition among the low-density, maximal-current, and high-density phases is investigated by the use of the mean-field model. The phase diagram is found numerically and analytically. The merging pedestrian flow is analyzed by using a one-dimensional approximation. The one-dimensional approximation is consistent with the numerical result.
