Abstract
For the first time the structure factors S(Q) for nine pure liquids and 20 binary mixtures have been studied using experimental ultrasonic velocity. The packing factor η on which S(Q) solely depends on (while adopting hard sphere model) is estimated with the help of the experimental ultrasonic velocity in a series of hydrocarbons (C6–C16) and their mixtures with bromoform and cyclohexanone. Results of S(Q) vs. Q curve have been discussed in terms of destruction or creation of and/or induced conformational changes in hydrocarbons in the presence of bromoform, and cyclohexanone. At the same time, from the contact value of the radial distribution function, we could be able to conclude that the phase-separated systems are composed of both the phases almost rich in hard spheres, whose structure may be interpreted in terms of conformational changes in hydrocarbons. The momentum transfer parameter Q is taken to be arbitrary.
