Abstract
A general model to deal with single-molecule electronic devices is presented. The model uses a previously developed formalism to deal with the statistical properties of small open fermionic quantum systems. The advantage of the formalism relies in its simplicity while taking strict control of fermionic consistency in the exchange of electrons between the device and the external (metallic) wires. Examples of switching and rectification are shown within this model, as well as several comparisons with experimental results for single-molecule transport and/or single-electron devices.
