Abstract :
Optical fiber technology enabled the high-speed, long-distance capacity in todayʹs networks. The packet switching functions are processed in the electrical domain after optical-to-electrical conversion. As more real-time applications are in use, demand for bandwidth increases. Therefore, the electronic processing may potentially become a bottleneck at the intermediate nodes along the network.
