Abstract
ABSTRACT: the aim of this research is to compare emotional intelligence among female athletes and non-athletes at the Chamran University of Ahvaz. This study is a descriptive survey conducted as a field study. The sample consists of 237 female students of the Chamran University of Ahvaz, comprising of 120 active and 117 inactive women whom have been selected with allocated proportion and random sampling methods. The collecting tools of the data are personal specifications questionnaires, and the Schutte et.al (1988) inventory of emotional intelligence, which measure the three parameters of emotions assessment and expression, emotions regulation and emotions utilization. The data have been analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and Multi-way analysis of variance methods at the p < 0/5 significance level. The results show that there is a significant difference between the active/inactive females’ emotional intelligence scores, such that the active females’ emotional intelligence is significantly higher than that of inactive students (Willks Lambda=./61, F=6/79, P=0/001). The results of the tracking test also show that the dimensions of the emotional intelligence of the two groups are significantly different.
