Comparative Pharmacological Evaluation on the leaf and stem bark of Annona reticulata L. for antidiabetic activity

Medicinal herbs as potential source of therapeutics aids has attained a significant role in health system all over the world for both humans and animals not only in the diseased condition but also as potential material for maintaining proper health. Our aim was to demonstrate the hypoglycaemic and antidiabetic activity of the ethanolic and water extract of leaf and stem bark of Annona reticulata (custard apple) in diabetic animals with a view to explore its use for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in humans. The result obtained in the in vivo study on antidiabetic activity of ethanolic and water extract of leaf and stem bark of Annona reticulata demonstrate the strong antidiabetic impacts of extracts, the present study provides the benefits of using the leaf and stem bark extract of Annona reticulata in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Leaf ethanol extract is found to be more potent than other extracts in management of diabetes In comparison to Stem bark extracts, Leaf extracts showed more potent hypoglycemic activity in treatment of diabetes in alloxan induced rats.
