Abstract
A characteristic analysis for the governing differential equations for the compressible one-dimensional two-fluid model is presented. The momentum flux parameters for the gas and liquid phase are introduced to incorporate the effect of void fraction and velocity profiles. A characteristic equation is derived. Two roots of the equation determine the choked flow condition. The other two roots determine the stability of the differential equations in response to the short wave length disturbances. It is shown that the compressible one-dimensional two-fluid model is stable for the whole range of flow regime by use of appropriate momentum flux parameters. The choked flow condition is calculated and is compared with that of the conventional model.
