Abstract :
Ever-growing and continuous changes and uncertainty in the environment in which organizations operate requires applying an appropriate response to the needs of the market and increasing the quality of goods and services. In a knowledge society where changes and innovations in information technology are incredibly fast and pace of development of environment and society constantly increases, organizations and profit seeking enterprises need to continuously learn and improve. This study was presented to illustrate how the concept of the learning organization, discuss the importance of establishing such an organization, its requirements and specifications. A characteristic that distinguish learning organizations from traditional organizations is the mastery of certain basic principles. Senge has identified five principles including: 1. system thinking, 2. personal mastery, 3. mental models, 4. shared vision and 5. team learning. To identify the learning organization in under study sample, learning process based on Sengeʹs five disciplines has been evaluated. Statistical community includes managers (middle and operational) and staff (administrative and technical) of western Azarbaijan electric power distributing company with bachelor and M.A/MS degrees. Researcher-made questionnaire has been used for evaluating five disciplines in this organization. After distributing and collecting questionnaires, data has been analyzed by appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics. The research findings indicated that the company was not learning and there were barriers in the face of this organization. Accordingly, effective guidelines have been proposed for this company to become a learning organization.
