Abstract
A direct time-domain method for analyzing the dynamic response of contactable cracks with friction between crack surfaces is proposed. This method does not only describe the impacting process of crack surfaces, but also takes into account the static and kinetic friction during the process of contact and slip of crack surfaces. The method is an explicit one requiring no iteration to simulate the contact condition of the crack surfaces. The basic procedures of the method are presented and computations are made for the scattering of incident P waves by a crack with static and kinetic friction.
