Abstract
A mixed finite element method is used for the numerical solution of the stationary Navier-Stokes equations. In this formulation the pressure, the velocity and its gradient are the most relevant unknowns. An existence and uniqueness results for the finite element solution, together with the convergence results are proved near a non-singular solution. Optimal error estimates and numerical results are presented.
