Abstract
The Bérenger perfectly matched layer (or PML) is an absorbing layer used for terminating infinite domain calculations. Here, we examine how to extend the original layer to curvilinear coordinate systems, the effects of discretization on the layer and how to design optimal layers for scattering calculations. We end by examining the effect of the truncation boundary condition on the layer.
