Abstract :
The algorithm of the numerical solution of the cableʹs differential equation is modified in a way that permits to improve already published results. The algorithm is derived by linearization of the nonlinear equation of the cable motion. Unlike the known algorithms which are used for relatively highly extensible cables, this one is efficient for the numerical solution of slightly extensible and nonextensible cables. The comparative results of the calculation according to the two methods are presented here. The probabilistic approach to the short-circuit current is given as well. This approach is similar to the design criterion for random wind loads with return periods of 50, 100, 150 yrs etc.
