Abstract :
Inacompanionpaper,mechanisticmodelsofmajorfluidparticleinteractionphenomenainvolvingtwobubblegroupshavebeenproposed.Thepredictionofinterfacialareaconcentrationevolutionusingtheone-dimensionaltwo-grouptransportequationandevaluationwithexperimentalresultsareperformedinthepaper.Theseevaluationsarebasedonsoliddatabasesfora2-inchair–waterloopwithsufficientinformationontheaxialdevelopmentandtheradialdistributionofthelocalparameters.Modelevaluationstrategiesaresystematicallyanalyzed.Thepredictionsfortheinterfacialareaconcentrationevolutiondemonstratesatisfactoryaccuracy.Theproposedmodelpredictsasmoothtransitionacrossthebubbly-to-slugflowregimeboundaryanddemonstratesmechanismsforthegenerationanddevelopmentofthecap/slugbubblegroup.Thetwo-groupinterfacialareatransportequationcoversawiderangefrombubbly,slug,tochurnturbulentflowregimesforadiabaticair–waterupwardflowinmoderatediameterpipes.Thegeneralityoftheinterfacialtransportmodelisalsodiscussed.
