Abstract
Oneoftheparadigmaticclassesofproblemsthatfrequentlyariseinpipingstressanalysisdisciplineistheeffectoflocalstressescreatedbysupportsandrestraintsattachments.Overthepast20years,concernshavebeenidentifiedbybothregulatoryagenciesinthenuclearpowerindustryandothersintheprocessandchemicalsindustriesconcerningtheeffectofvariousstiffclampingarrangementsontheexpectedlifeofthepipeanditsvariouspipingcomponents.Inmanyofthecommonlyutilizedgeometriesandarrangementsofpipeclamps,theelasticityproblembecomestheaxisymmetricstressanddeformationdeterminationinahollowcylinder(pipe)subjectedtotheappropriateboundaryconditionsandrespectiveloadsperse.Oneofthegeometriesthatserveasapipeanchoriscomprisedoftwopipeclampsthatareboltedtightlytothepipeandaffixedtoamodifiedshoe-typearrangement.Theshoeisemployedforthepurposeofprovidinganimmovablebasethatcanbeeasilyattachedeitherbyboltingorweldingtoastructuralsteelpiperack.
