Abstract :
Complexphenomenasuchasphasetransitionsandheattransfersinmultiphase,multicomponentflowsweremodeledinthefluid-dynamicsportionofSIMMER-III,whichwasdevelopedtoappropriatelyassesscoredisruptiveaccidents(CDAs)inliquid–metalfastreactors(LMFRs).Anewmulticomponentvaporization/condensation(V/C)modelwasdevelopedandintroducedtoSIMMER-IIIbytheauthors.Inthepresentstudy,anewseriesofmulti-bubblecondensationexperimentswasperformedtodemonstratethatSIMMER-IIIwiththepresentV/Cmodelispracticallyapplicabletomulticomponent,multiphaseflowsystemswithphasetransition.Intheexperiments,bubblediametersandvoidfractionswerequantifiedfromvisualizationimagesusingoriginalimage-processingtechniques.ComparingSIMMER-IIIpredictionswithexperimentaldata,itwasconfirmedthatSIMMER-IIIwiththeproposedV/Cmodelcouldsuitablyrepresenttheeffectsofnoncondensablecomponentsonthecondensationprocessinmulti-bubblesystems.ThisworkhasimprovedthereliabilityofSIMMER-IIIwithregardtomulticomponentphase-transitionphenomena.
