Abstract :
BurnupcalculationshavebeenperformedonastandardHTRfuelpebblewitharadiusof3cmcontaining9gof8%enricheduraniumandburnablepoisonparticles(BPP)madeofB4Chighlyenrichedin10B.TheradiusoftheBPPandthenumberofparticlesperfuelpebblehavebeenvariedtofindtheflattestreactivity-to-timecurve.Itwasfoundthatforak∞of1.1,areactivityswingaslowas2%canbeobtainedwheneachfuelpebblecontainsabout1070BPPwitharadiusof75μm.ForcoatedBPPthatconsistofagraphitekernelwitharadiusof300μmcoveredwithaB4Cburnablepoisonlayer,asimilarvalueforthereactivityswingcanbeobtained.Cylindricalparticlesseemtoperformworse.Ingeneral,themodificationofthegeometryofBPPisaneffectivemeanstotailorthereactivitycurveofHTRs.
