Abstract :
Inthehypotheticalcaseofanuclearreactorsevereaccident,thereactorcorecouldmeltandformamixture,calledcorium,ofhighlyrefractoryoxides(UO2,ZrO2)andmetallicoroxidizedsteel,thatcouldeventuallyflowoutofthevesselandmixwiththebasematdecompositionproducts(generallyoxidessuchasSiO2,Al2O3,CaO,Fe2O3,…).Forsomeyears,theFrenchAtomicEnergyCommission(CEA)haslaunchedanR&Dprogramwhichaimedatprovidingthetoolsforimprovingthemasteringofsevereaccidents.
