Abstract
TheChalkRiverUnidentifiedDeposit(cruds)wereclassifiedintoTypes1and2basedontheanalysesofactualcrudsfromtargetobjectssuchassteamgenerator(SG)ofKoreaandJapanPressurizedWaterReactor(PWR).Ametaloxideormetalhydroxidewasusedtosynthesizesimulatedcrudshavingchemicalcompositionsandcrystallinestructuresimilartotheactualoneby12differentmethods.CRUD4(metaloxidesintheautoclavevessel)andCRUD10(metaloxidesinacrucibleafterhydrazinepretreatment)werechosenasthebestmethodforTypes1and2,respectively.Thesesimulatedcrudsshowedreasonabledissolubilitiesbydissolutiontestsusingwell-knowndecontaminatingagents.Asthesecrudscanbesynthesizedeasilywithoutusinganyspecializedequipmentorreagentsinashorttimeandinlargequantities,theyareexpectedtostimulatethedevelopmentofdecontaminatingagentsandprocesses.
