Abstract
Thepotentialreleaseofthenitrogen(N2)gasdissolvedinthewateroftheaccumulatorsoftheemergencycorecoolantsystemoftheLoviisaNuclearPowerPlant(PWRofVVER-440type)hasbeeninvestigated.AmodelofthedissolutionandreleaseofN2gashasbeenimplementedinthethermal-hydrauliccodeCATHAREfornuclearsafety.IncollaborationwithVTT,ananalyticalexperimenthasbeenperformedwithsomecomponentsofthePACTELfacilitytodetermine,inparticular,thevalueofthereleasetimeconstantofthenitrogengasinthedepressurizationconditionsrepresentativeofthesmallandintermediatebreaktransientspostulatedfortheLoviisaNuclearPowerPlant.Suchtransients,withsimplifiedoperatingprocedures,werecalculatedusingthemodifiedCATHAREcode.Incomparisonwiththecasescalculatedwithouttakingintoaccountthereleaseofnitrogengas,thestartoftheLPISisdelayedbybetween1and1.75h.ApplicabilityoftheobtainedresultstotherealsafetyconditionsmusttakeintoaccounttherealoperatingproceduresusedintheLoviisaNuclearPowerPlant.
