Abstract
Athree-dimensionalCFDanalysishasbeenperformedontheflowcharacteristicsinthereactorvesseldowncomerduringthelaterefloodphaseofapostulatedlarge-breakloss-of-coolantaccident(LBLOCA),inordertovalidatethemodifiedlinearscalingmethodologythatwasappliedintheMIDAStestfacilityofKoreaAtomicEnergyResearchInstitute.Theverticalandcircumferentialvelocitysimilaritiesarenumericallytestedforthe1/1and1/5linearscalemodelsfortheAPR1400reactorvesseldowncomer.Theeffectsofscaleonflowpatterns,pressureandvelocitydistributions,andtheimpingingjetbehaviorareanalyzedwiththeFLUENTcode.Inaddition,asimplifiedhalfcylindermodelwithasingleemergencycorecooling(ECC)nozzleisnumericallytestedtoinvestigatethescaleeffectonthespreadingwidthandbreak-upofECCwaterfilm.Thequalitativeandquantitativeresultsindicatethatthe1/5modifiedlinearscalemodelofthereactorvesseldowncomerwouldreasonablypreservethehydrodynamicsimilaritywithAPR1400.
