Abstract :
Anewmethodologytoperformnuclearreactordesign,balancingsafetyandeconomicsattheconceptualengineeringstage,ispresentedinthiswork.Thegoalofthisintegralmethodologyistotakeintoaccountsafetyaspectsinanoptimizationdesignprocesswherethedesignvariablesarebalancedinordertoobtainabetterfigureofmeritrelatedwithreactoreconomicperformance.Designparametereffectsoncharacteristicorcriticalsafetyvariables,chosenfromreactorbehaviorduringaccidents(safetyperformanceindicators),aresynthesizedonDesignMaps.Thesemapsallowonetocomparethesafetyindicatorwithlimits,whicharedeterminedbydesigncriteriaorregulations,andtotransfertheserestrictionstothedesignparameters.Inthisway,reactordynamicresponseandothersafetyaspectsareintegratedinaglobaloptimizationprocess,bymeansofadditionalrulestotheneutronic,thermal-hydraulic,andmechanicalcalculations.
