Abstract :
Ingeneral,thestructuresaresubmittedduringtheirusefullifetodeteriorationprocessesthat,dependingontheintensity,mayaffecttheirperformanceandloadcapacityandconsequentlytheirsafety.Inthiscase,itisnecessarytoaccomplishaninspectioninordertoevaluatetheconditionsofthestructureandtolocateandquantifytheintensityofthedamage.Inthisstudy,amethodtoidentifyandtoquantifydamageinstructures,calledResidualErrorMethodintheMovementEquation[Localizaçãoequantificaçãodedanosemestruturaspormeiodesuascaracterı́sticasdinâmicas.UniversidadedeBrası́lia,Brası́lia,DF,2000]isevaluated,byanumericalanalysis,toverifyitsefficiencywhenappliedtocontinuousbeamsandframestructures.Thismethodisbasedonthealteration,producedbydamage,inthedynamicpropertiesofthestructures.Thelocationofthedamageisdoneobservingtheerrorinthemovementequationoftheintactstructures.Thestructuresarediscretizedinfiniteelementsandthedamageisintroducedbyastiffnessandareareductionoftheelements’cross-sections.Othertwomethodsofdamagedetectionusedinthispaperare:theDamageDetectionfromChangesinCurvatureModeShapes[J.SoundVibration145(1991)321]andtheindexesMAC[Proc.1stInt.ModalAnal.Conf.1(1982)110]andCOMAC[Proc.6thInt.ModalAnal.Conf.1(1988)690].Observingtheobtainedresults,theResidualErrorMethodintheMovementEquationisefficientinthedamagelocationandquantificationofthestudiedstructures.
