Abstract :
Thispaperpresentsthecasestudyofprototypingacontrol-roddrivingmechanism(CRDM),whichisacrucialsafetysystemintheTaiwanResearchReactor(TRR-II).Concurrentengineeringconcepthasbeenimplementedinthiswork,whichconsistsofiterativeparallelprocedureswithdesignanalysisandperformancetesting.Suchkindofnuclear-gradesystemand/orcomponentsdistinguishthemselvesfromgenericindustrialproductswiththeso-calledfailsafedesignfeature,whichmeansthatthesystemmuststillbesafeevenifcomponentsfail.Hence,aseriesofperformancetestinganddesignimprovementhavebeeninteractivelyexecuted,toensurethemechanicalintegrityanddurabilityoftheprototype.FunctionaltestingresultsshowthattheoverallperformanceoftheCRDMmeetsthespecificationrequirements.
