Abstract :
Thelifetimeofmaterialand/orcomponentshasbeendiscussedindividuallyfromdifferentconcepts,andsometimesgivesconfusiontomaterialresearchersaswellasdesigners.Thelifetimeofmaterialsisdeterminedbasedonthedimensionalchangesduetoneutronirradiation,atwhichtheyreturntotheiroriginaldimensionsafterinitiallycontracting.Ontheotherhand,thelifetimeofcomponentsforHTGRsisdefinedbasedonamarginofthespecifiedminimumultimatestrengthsofthegraphitetothestressesinducedinthecomponents.Asanexample,thestressesinducedinthegraphiteblockfortheHTTRwere,then,comparedwiththelimitedstressvaluedeterminedfromthespecifiedminimumultimatestrength,andthelifetimeofthecomponentwasevaluatedandcomparedwiththatdefinedasdimensionalchanges.Asaresult,itwasfoundthatthelifetimeofcomponentsforHTGRsshouldbedeterminedastheshorteroneinthetwolifetimesdefinedbythestress-strengthrelationshipandbythedimensionalchanges.
