Abstract
Inlessthan10years,thefirstcommercialpressurizedwaterreactor(PWR)plantinKoreawillreachitsofficialdesignlife.Aspartofsafetyactivities,developedcountrieshavealreadyimplementedperiodicsafetyreview(PSR)orequivalentprogramstocheckandimprovethesafetyofoperatingnuclearpowerplants(NPP)duringtheirplantlife.Attheendof1999,itwasdecidedbytheKoreanAtomicEnergySafetyCommitteetoadoptthePSRprogramandtoapplyittoKoreanoperatingNPP.SinceKoriUnit1startedthereviewforthefirsttentativeapplicationofPSRasamodelcaseinMay2000,itisnowprogressingwell.ManagementofagingisoneofthemajorfactorstobeconsideredinPSRandlifeextensionofanuclearplant.ThispaperisintendedtointroducetheregulatoryaspectandstrategyofKoreanPSR.ThebackgroundandscopeofbasicPSRguidelinesaredescribed,andasummaryoftechnicalcriteriaforagingmanagement,whichshowsaregulatorydirectionforPSR,isalsopresented.
