Abstract :
Theleak-before-break(LBB)designofthepipingsystemfornuclearpowerplantshasbeenbasedonthepremisethattheleakageduetothethrough-wallcrackcanbedetectedbyusingleakdetectionsystemsbeforeacatastrophicbreak.ThepipingmaterialsarerequiredtohaveexcellentJ–Rfracturecharacteristics.However,whereferriticsteelsforreactorcoolantpipingsystemsoperateatthetemperatureswheredynamicstrainaging(DSA)couldoccur,thefractureresistancecouldbereducedwiththeinfluenceofDSAunderdynamicloading.Therefore,inordertoapplytheLBBdesignconcepttothepipingsystemunderseismicloading,bothstaticanddynamicJ–Rcharacteristicsmustbeevaluated.
