Abstract :
ScaledcoupledmeltpoolconvectionandvesselcreepfailureexperimentsarebeingperformedintheFOREVERprogramattheRoyalInstituteofTechnology,Stockholm.Theseexperimentsaresimulatingthelowerheadofapressurizedreactorvesselunderthethermalloadofameltpoolwithinternalheatsourcesandaspecifiedinternalpressure.Duetothemulti-axialcreepdeformationofthethree-dimensionalvesselwithaprototypicnon-uniformtemperaturefieldtheseexperimentsofferanexcellentopportunitytovalidatenumericalcreepmodels.AFiniteElementModelisdevelopedandusingtheComputationalFluidDynamicmodule,themeltpoolconvectionissimulatedandthetemperaturefieldwithinthevesselwallisevaluated.Thetransientstructuralmechanicalcalculationsarethenperformedapplyinganewcreepmodelingprocedure.Additionally,thematerialdamageisevaluatedconsideringthecreepdeformationaswellasthepromptplasticdeformation.
