Abstract :
Mechanicalloadoncladdinginducedbyfuelswellinginahighburn-upBWRtyperodwasanalyzedbyafuelperformancecodeFEMAXI-6.ThecodewasdevelopedfortheanalysisofLWRfuelrodbehaviorsinnormaloperationandtransientconditionsusingfiniteelementmethod(FEM).
Duringapowerrampforthehighburn-uprod,instantaneouspelletswellingcansignificantlyexceedthelevelthatispredictedbya“steady-rate”swellingmodel,causingalargecircumferentialstrainincladding.Thisphenomenonwassimulatedbyanewswellingmodeltotakeintoaccountthefissiongasbubblegrowth.AsaresultitwasfoundthatthenewmodelcangivereasonablepredictionsoncladdingdiameterexpansionincomparisonwithPIEdata.Thebubblegrowthmodelassumesthattheequilibriumstateequationholdsforabubbleunderexternalpressure,andsimultaneoussolutionisobtainedwithbothbubblesizedeterminationequationanddiffusionequationoffissiongasatoms.Inaddition,apellet-cladbondingmodelwhichhasbeenincorporatedinthecodetoassumesolidmechanicalcouplingbetweenpelletoutersurfaceandcladdinginnersurfacepredictedthegenerationofbi-axialstressstateinthecladdingduringramp.
