Abstract :
Aninvestigationofstrainrate,temperatureandsizeeffectsinthreenuclearsteelshasbeenconducted.Thematerialsare:ferriticsteel20MnMoNi55(vesselhead),austeniticsteelX6CrNiNb1810(upperinternalstructure),andferriticsteel26NiCrMo146(bolting).Smoothcylindricaltensilespecimensofthreesizeshavebeentestedatstrainratesfrom0.001to300s−1,atroomandelevatedtemperatures(400–600°C).Fullstress–straindiagramshavebeenobtained,andadditionalparametershavebeencalculatedbasedonthem.Theresultsdemonstrateaclearinfluenceoftemperature,whichamountsintoreducingsubstantiallymechanicalstrengthswithrespecttoRTconditions.Theeffectofstrainrateisalsoshown.ItisobservedthatatRTthestrainrateeffectcausesupshiftingoftheflowstresscurves,whereasatthehighertemperaturesamilddownshiftingoftheflowcurvesismanifested.Sizeeffecttendencieshavealsobeenobserved.Someimplicationswhenassessingthepressurevesselstructuralintegrityundersevereaccidentconditionsareconsidered.
