Abstract :
Reducedscaleexperimentsareoftenemployedinengineeringbecausetheyaremuchcheaperthanrealscaletesting.Unfortunately,though,itisdifficulttodesignathermal-hydrauliccircuitorequipmentinreducedscalecapableofreproducing,bothaccuratelyandsimultaneously,allthephysicalphenomenathatoccurinrealscaleandoperatingconditions.Thispaperpresentsamethodologytodesigningthermal-hydraulicexperimentsinreducedscalebasedonsettingupaconstrainedoptimizationproblemthatissolvedusinggeneticalgorithms(GAs).Inordertodemonstratetheapplicationofthemethodologyproposed,weperformedsomeinvestigationsinthedesignofaheateraimedtosimulatethetransportofheatandmomentuminthecoreofapressurizedwaterreactor(PWR)at100%ofnominalpowerandnon-accidentoperatingconditions.Theresultsobtainedshowthattheproposedmethodologyisapromisingapproachfordesigningreducedscaleexperiments.
