Abstract :
Thispaperpresentsthemodelingofbubbleinteractionmechanismsinthetwo-groupinterfacialareatransportequation(IATE)forconfinedgas–liquidtwo-phaseflow.Thetransportequationisapplicabletobubbly,cap-turbulent,andchurn-turbulentflowregimes.Inthetwo-groupIATE,bubblesarecategorizedintotwogroups:spherical/distortedbubblesasGroup1andcap/slug/churn-turbulentbubblesasGroup2.Thus,twosetsofequationsareusedtodescribethegenerationanddestructionratesofbubblenumberdensity,voidfraction,andinterfacialareaconcentrationforthetwogroupsofbubblesduetobubbleexpansionandcompression,coalescenceanddisintegration,andphasechange.Fivemajorbubbleinteractionmechanismsareidentifiedforthegas–liquidtwo-phaseflowofinterest,andareanalyticallymodeledasthesource/sinktermsforthetransportequationintheconfinedflow.Thesemodelsincludebothintra-groupandinter-groupbubbleinteractions.
