Abstract :
Inacoredisruptiveaccident(CDA)ofaFastBreederReactor,thepostaccidentheatremoval(PAHR)iscrucialfortheaccidentmitigation.Themoltencorematerialshouldbesolidifiedinthesodiumcoolantinthereactorvessel.Thematerial,beingfragmentedwhilesolidificationandformingdebrisbed,willbecooledinthecoolant.
Intheexperiment,moltenmaterialjetisinjectedintowatertoexperimentallyobtainthevisualizedinformationofthefragmentationandboilingphenomenaduringPAHRinCDA.Theexperimentshowsthatthebreakupofthemoltenmaterialintofinefragmentsisobservedatthefront,sideandmiddlepartofthejetduringveryshorttimeinterval.Thedistributedparticlebehaviorofthemoltenmaterialjetisobservedwithhigh-speedvideocamera.AndthevisualdataisanalyzedwithParticleImagingVelocimetry(PIV).
Theexperimentalresultsarecomparedwiththeexistingtheories.Consequently,themarginalwavelengthonthesurfaceofawaterjetisclosetothevalueestimatedbasedontheRayleigh–Taylorinstability.Moreover,thefragmenteddropletdiameterobtainedfromtheinteractionofmoltenmaterialandwaterisclosetothevalueestimatedbasedontheKelvin–Helmholtzinstability.
