Abstract :
Theconceptofpreliminarytransmutationofminoractinidesbeforeplacementtothelong-termstorageisconsidered.Thepurposeofsuchpreliminarytransmutationbeforeultimatestorageistoincinerateapartofactinidesandtotransformanotherpartintonewactinidesprovidinglowlevelofradiotoxicityaccumulatedinthestorage.ModesoftransmutationinreactorsofPWR,CANDU,andSuperphenixtypesarecompared.Amongpowerreactors,heavy-waterPHWR(CANDU)typereactorismostacceptableforpreliminarytransmutation.
