Abstract :
AmodelfordeterminingtheuncertaintyandriskassociatedwiththeCharpyimpactenergyofmulti-runweldsisdeveloped.Usingthemodel,itisdemonstratedthataductile-to-brittletransitionregiondeterminedfromfittingCharpyimpactenergyatseveraltesttemperaturesisassociatedwithlargeuncertainty.Theuncertaintyinthelocationofthetransitionregionisstronglydependentonthenumberoftesttemperatures,thewaythemulti-runweldissampledbytheCharpyV-notch,thechoiceofthetesttemperaturesandthevariationoftheimpactenergyatthetesttemperatures.Withincreasingthenumberoftesttemperatures,theuncertaintyassociatedwiththelocationofthetransitionregioncanbereducedsignificantly.
