Abstract :
Highperformanceceramics,e.g.,siliconcarbide(SiC),canwidelybeusedinthenuclearsectorbecauseoftheirexcellentthermochemicalandradiologicalproperties.However,ithasnotbeenpossibletoutilisethisgreatpotentialsincethetechnologiesforhightemperatureresistantjoiningoftheseceramicmaterialsarenotyetsatisfying.
Thispaperdescribesaninnovativelaserjoiningtechnologythatallowsthefirmvacuumgastightbindingbetweenanyshapedbodiesmadeoftheseceramicmaterials.Thejointsobtainedaretemperatureresistantat1600°Candabove.ThemethodisbasedonasolderthatisspeciallymadefromAl2O3,Y2O3andSiO2andmeltedlocallyinthejoiningzonebyuseoflaserradiation.Thepaperdiscussestheinfluenceofthelaserbeamwavelength,theseamgeometryandthesoldercompositiononthequalityofthebrazejoint.TheadvantagesofthisnewmethodareillustratedbymeansoflaserbrazedSiCcapsulesandotherpartsandcomparedwithconventionaljoiningmethods.
