Abstract :
Asymmetricmodelofaperforatedplatecontaininga3×3arrayofcircularholes,arrangedinasquarepattern,waschosenandelastoplasticfiniteelementanalyseswerecarriedouttodeterminethelimitstressesforbothpitchanddiagonaldirectionsofloading,fordifferentvaluesofbiaxialityratios.PlanestressconditionswereassumedandtheTrescaandvonMisesyieldcriteriawereemployedtoobtaintwodifferentsetsofresults.Yieldsurfaceswereconstructedand‘generalcut-outfactors’weredeterminedforfourdifferentligamentefficiencies.TheFEMresultsobtainedbytheauthorsusingtheTrescaandvonMisesyieldcriteriawerecomparedwiththecorrespondingresultsof[J.PressureVesselTechnol.Trans.ASME(1975)146–154]and[J.PressureVesselTechnol.Trans.ASME(1997)122–126],respectively.TheresultsbasedontheTrescayieldcriterionobtainedbythepresentauthorsandthosein[J.PressureVesselTechnol.Trans.ASME(1975)146–154]werefoundtoagreewellwitheachother.InthecaseofthevonMisesyieldcriterion,theagreementwith[J.PressureVesselTechnol.Trans.ASME122–126]isgenerallygood.TheestimatesbasedontheTrescayieldcriterionareseentoresultinlowervaluesoflimitstressesandcut-outfactorsascomparedtothosebasedonthevonMisesyieldcriterion.Thedifferenceisattributedtotheyieldcriterionandtheflowrulechosenfortheanalysis.Theshapeaswellasthesizeoftheyieldsurfacewasfoundtodependontheligamentefficiency.
