Abstract :
KAERIhasperformedanexperimentalstudyonthecriticalheatflux(CHF)underzeroflowconditionswithanon-uniformlyheated3×3rodbundle.Experimentalconditionsareintherangeofasystempressurefrom0.50to14.96MPaandinletwatersubcoolingenthalpiesfrom68to352kJ/kg.Thetestsectionusedinthepresentexperimentsconsistedofaverticalflowchannel,upperandlowerplenums,andanon-uniformlyheated3×3rodbundle.TheexperimentalresultsshowthattheCHFsinlow-pressureconditionsaresomewhatscatteredwithinanarrowrange.Asthesystempressureincreases,however,theCHFsshowagoodparametrictrend.TheCHFsoccurintheupperregionoftheheatedsection,butthelocationsofthedetectedCHFsmovegraduallyinadownwarddirectionwiththeincreaseofthesystempressure.EventhoughtheeffectsoftheinletwatersubcoolingenthalpiesandsystempressureofthefloodingCHFarerelativelysmallerthanthoseoftheflowboilingCHF,theCHFincreasesbyincreasingtheinletwatersubcoolingenthalpies.SeveralexistingcorrelationsforthecountercurrentfloodingCHFbasedonWallisʹsfloodingcorrelationandKutateladzeʹscriterionfortheonsetoffloodingarecomparedwiththeCHFdataobtainedinthepresentexperimentstoexaminetheapplicabilityofthecorrelations.
