Abstract :
Athermalmodelisconstructedandanalysesareperformedforan‘in-floor’typenuclearwasterepositoryingraniticrockforahighlevelnuclearwaste(HLW)-bearingceramicwasteform(synroc).Transientcalculationsforathree-dimensional(3-D)modelhavebeencarriedoutforboth20and10wt.%HLW-bearingsynroc,forsurfacecoolingperiodsbetweenreactordischargeandgeologicaldisposalvaryingfrom5to40years.Thisstudyinvestigatesthetemperaturedistributioninoneoftheboreholesofahypotheticaltunnelforabasicgeometricalsettingaswellastheeffectofvaryingthedistancebetweenadjacentboreholesandthedistancebetweenadjacenttunnels.Thetemperaturesintherepositorywerefoundtobesensitivetotheinterimsurfacecoolingperiodaswellastheamountofwasteloaded.Theresultsshowedthatdecreasingthespacingbetweenthecanistershasamorepronouncedeffectonthetemperaturefieldthandecreasingthespacingbetweenthetunnels.
