Abstract :
Aconceptualdesignstudywascarriedouttoenhanceproliferation-resistantnatureofcurrentlightwaterreactorfuels.Mainfeaturesoftheproliferation-resistantfueldesignareadoptionofalloyinsteadofoxideandutilizationofenrichedreprocesseduranium(∼10wt%235U).Majordimensionsofthefuelassemblywerenotchangedbecauseofthermal-hydraulicconsiderationsandback-fittabilitytocurrentPWRs.Itssmaller238Uinventoryreducesgenerationofplutoniumand236Uinthereprocesseduraniumpromotesgenerationof238Puthathaslargedecayheat.Theassemblycalculationresultsofthefuelindicatedthatthefuelhasgoodproliferation-resistantnatureintheviewpointofdecreasedplutoniumgeneration,worseplutoniumcompositionandincreaseddecayheat.Neutronicanalysesofanequilibriumcoreloadedwiththeproliferation-resistantfuelswerecarriedoutandcalculationresultsindicatethatvariationsofmajorcoresafetyparametersarenotverylarge.Therefore,basicfeasibilityoftheproliferation-resistantfueldesignusingreprocesseduraniumwasconfirmedinthecourseofthisstudy.
