Abstract :
Thispaperpresentstheresultsofabenchmarkonthermalfatiguecrackgrowthevaluationforathick-wallcylindersubjectedtocyclicthermaltransients.ThesimplifiedcrackgrowthevaluationmethodsofbothJNCinJAPANandA16proceduresproposedbyCEAinFrancearepresented.Thepredictionsobtainedusingbothmethodsarecomparedwiththeexperimentaldata.TheJNCmethod,whichaccountsforthenon-linearstresscomponentprovidespredictionsofcrackadvanceinagoodagreementwiththeexperimentaldata.Incontrast,significantdifferencesareobservedbetweentheA16predictionsandtheexperimentaldata.Thediscrepanciesaremainlyduetothenon-linearstresscomponentwhichisnotaccountedforintheA16method.WhenusingtheJNCstressintensityfactorsolutiondeterminedbyfiniteelementanalysistoaccountforthenon-linearstresscomponent,theA16methodwellpredictsthethermalfatiguecrackgrowthbehavior.
