Abstract :
ThepaperreportsacomputationalstudyoftheeffectsofdistortionsofthemoderatorcoolingpassagesofanAdvancedGas-cooledReactor(AGR)onthetemperatureofthegraphitecoreusingafiniteelementbasedComputationalFluidDynamics(CFD)codeFEAT.ThisstudyisanexampleofusingCFDtacklingcomplexpracticalengineeringproblems.Duetothecomplexityoftheproblem,significantsimplificationswereinevitableinordertoobtainamanageableCFDmodel,whichweredonebasedontheunderstandingoftheproblembythemodellersplusengineeringjudgements.Thesewerebacked-upbysensitivitystudiesandbenchmarkingbasedonrelevantsimplerproblems.ThepaperdiscussesthedevelopmentoftheCFDmodelanditsvalidation,followedbypresentationanddiscussionofthesimulationresults.
