Abstract :
Theperformanceofarectangularslitimpactorwassimulatedusingthethree-dimensionalcomputationalfluiddynamics(CFDs)computerprogramCFX-4.4.Thecharacteristicimpactorefficiencycurveobtainedfromthesimulationswascomparedwiththeexperimentalresults.Asensitivitystudywascarriedouttoinvestigatetheeffectof(a)thetotalnumberofparticlesusedforthesimulation,(b)gravityinthesimulation,and(c)ultra-Stokesiandragontheefficiencycurvepredictions.Thesimulationpredictionsforeachoftheabovecasesarepresentedalongwiththeexperimentaldataandtheresultsarediscussed.Resultsobtainedfromthesimulationareseentobeingoodagreementwithexperimentaldata,validatingtheparticletransportmodelimplementedinCFX-4.4,forlaminarflowconditions.
