Abstract :
Thispaperpresentsanassessmentofvariousmodelswhichcanbeusedforthemultidimensionalsimulationofmultiphaseflows,suchasmayoccurinnuclearreactors.Inparticular,amodelappropriateforthedirectnumericalsimulation(DNS)ofmultiphaseflowsandamechanisticallybased,three-dimensional,four-field,turbulent,two-fluidcomputationalmultiphasefluiddynamics(CMFD)modelarediscussed.Atwo-fluidbubblyflowmodel,whichwasderivedusingpotentialflowtheory,canbeextendedtootherflowregimes,butthiswillnormallyinvolveensemble-averagingtheresultsfromdirectnumericalsimulations(DNS)ofvariousflowregimestoprovidethedetailednumericaldatanecessaryforthedevelopmentofflow-regime-specificinterfacialandwallclosurelaws.
