Abstract :
Experimentswithairandwaterinsmallhotlegreproductionswerecarriedoutaimingtoacquireabetterunderstandingofthecountercurrentflowlimitation(CCFL)inthisgeometry.Theeffectsofvariousgeometricalparametersofthetestsectionandoftheinletwaterflowrateontheonsetofflooding,onthepartialdeliveryofwaterandonthezeroliquidpenetrationwereinvestigated.Itwasobservedthatwhiletheonsetoffloodingisaffectedbytheinletwaterflowrate,thezeroliquidpenetrationisindependentofthisflowrate.Theresultswithpartialdeliveryshowedthat,forafixedairvelocity,anincreaseinthehorizontallength,orintheinclinedlength,oftheflowchannelleadstoanincreaseofthewatercarriedoverbytheair.Ontheotherhand,inpipeswithlargerdiametersthedragofthewaterissmaller.Theexperimentalresultsshowedsmalldifferencesintheresultsfortestswithinclinationoftheriserlowerthan90°.Foraninclinationequalto90°,thewatercarriedbytheairtendstobelowerthanintheothersanglesforafixedairvelocity.Thestudyledalsotoanewcorrelationfortheflooding.
