Abstract :
InJapan,theNuclearPowerEngineeringCorporation(NUPEC),sponsoredbytheMinistryofEconomy,TradeandIndustry(METI),hasbeenconductingaseriesofseismicreliabilityprovingtestsusingfull-scaleorclosetofull-scalemodelstosimulateactualimportantequipmentthatiscriticalforseismicsafetyofnuclearpowerplants.Thetestsareintendedtovalidatetheseismicdesignandreliabilitywithasufficientmarginevenunderdestructiveearthquakes.Aseriesoftestswascarriedoutonareinforcedconcretecontainmentvessel(RCCV)foradvancedboilingwaterreactor(ABWR)from1992to1999.Alarge-scalehigh-performanceshakingtableatTadotsuEngineeringLaboratory,thelargestintheworld,wasusedforthistest.Part1reportsthetestmodelandtheresultsofpressureandleaktests.Part2describestestprocedures,inputwavesandtheresultsofverificationtestssuchaschangesofstiffness,characteristicfrequencyanddampingratio,thefailureofthemodelandtheloaddeflection.Part3showstheseismicsafetymarginthatwasevaluatedfromtheenergyinputduringthefailuretesttoadesignbasisearthquake.Part4reportssimulationanalysisresultsbyastickmodelwithlumpedmasses.
