  • Abstract
    Themodelingofcomplextransientsinnuclearpowerplants(NPP)remainsachallengingtopicforbestestimatethree-dimensionalcoupledcodecomputationaltools.Thistechniqueis,nowadays,extensivelyusedforsimulatingtransientsthatinvolvecorespatialasymmetricphenomenaandstrongfeedbackeffectsbetweencoreneutronicsandreactorloopthermal–hydraulics.Inthisframework,thePeachBottomBWRturbinetripexperiment2isconsidered.Thetestinvolvesarapidpositivereactivityadditionintothecoregeneratedbyawaterhammerload.ToperformanumericalsimulationofsuchphenomenonareferencecasewascalculatedusingthecoupledcodeRELAP5/PARCS.Anoveralldatacomparisonshowsgoodagreementbetweencalculatedandmeasuredpressurewavetrendinthecoreregion.However,thepredictedpowerresponseduringtheexcursionphasedidnotmatchcorrectlytheexperimentaltendency.Forthispurpose,aseriesofsensitivityanalyseshavebeencarriedouttoidentifythemostprobablereasonsofsuchdiscrepancy.Itwasfoundoutthattheuncertaintiesrelatedtothecross-sectionsmodelingandtothethermal–hydraulicclosurerelationshipsarethemainsourceoftheincorrectpowerfeedbackresponseduringthetransient.
